Open day

We welcomed hundreds of visitors on Saturday 30th September for the annual Open Morning. The community event showcased some of the extraordinary talents of our students with dance troops performing in Enterprise Square, student chefs demonstrating techniques in the bespoke catering area and Key Stage 4 Scientists leading experiments.

Families were invited to take a tour of the school, led by members of the Student Leadership Team, to experience learning in different subject areas and to meet the expert teachers.  In his speech, Headteacher, Steve Durkin spoke about how much progress the school has made in the last year and the exciting new direction for the school. He was very proud to introduce three 2017 leavers, now studying at King John Sixth Form, who spoke enthusiastically about their time at Castle View and the numerous, high level, academic qualifications they achieved. They acknowledged that their success was largely as a result of the unwavering support they received from their specialist teachers. Dr Margaret Wilson, Executive Headteacher at Castle View, addressed visitors and said, “Castle View has a real energy about it and, at King John, we are very excited about formalising our partnership as we become a Multi Academy Trust.”

The whole day had an overwhelming feeling of positivity and drive. Visitors left having had a taster of life at secondary school and were overwhelmed by the number of students who gave up their Saturday to help their school. They were also very impressed by the new look school uniform!
