Week Thirteen

Year 7 – “Macbeth” (A play by William Shakespeare)
Working from a pre-planned activities booklet (Lesson 2) Students will explore the theatrical roles of Director and Playwright. Students will watch an educational documentary on the life and theatre of William Shakespeare created by the Royal Shakespeare Company. They will create their own knowledge organizer.


Year 8 – “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time” (A play by Simon Stephens)
This is an introductory lesson into the contemporary play text. As dramatists it is important to understand the significant context behind the play and what influenced the playwright to write it. The students will learn about the social, historical, political and cultural aspects, independently producing research which will be their foundation of their power point.


Year 9 – “Blood Brothers” (A play by Willy Russell)
Working from a pre-planned Drama activities booklet and using prior knowledge, students will focus on completing lessons 3 and 4. Lesson 3, focuses on the role of costume designer. Students have to take on board the key elements and design a costume for the central character – ‘Linda’. The students will have to justify their design using the key design words learnt during the lesson. Lesson 4 focusses on acting techniques used in performance. Students will familiarise themselves with the key words and techniques. Additionally, the final task asks them to write in the role of an actor and how they would deliver a key line delivered by the central character – ‘Micky’ whilst considering the impact on the audience.


Year 10 GCSE Drama – Comp 1 and Comp 3
Component 1 (Devising) Students must research into the rehearsal techniques of their chosen practitioner:-

  • Bertolt Brecht
  • Frantic Assembly

They will create either a word document or add to their research file (from the previous Drama work) Once they have collated this information. They must consider how they can use the rehearsal techniques practically and how they could develop the practical work. Additionally, students must ensure that they have in depth research from a variety of resources and ensure that this is complete for controlled assessment purposes.

Component 3 (Theatre review – Written Exam)
In preparation for their Written exam, students will watch a professionally recorded performance of Evan Pacey’s “Girls like that”. Students must watch it and take detailed notes on:-

  • Acting
  • Use of Costume and Props
  • Set Design
  • Use of Space
  • Costume Design
  • Use of Sound
  • Use of Lighting

In preparation to attempt a Mock question next lesson.


Year 11 GCSE Drama – Comp 3 In preparation for their Written exam, students will watch a professionally recorded performance of Evan Pacey’s “Girls like that”. Students must watch it and take detailed notes on:-
