YEAR 8 OPTIONS INFORMATION EVENING – THURSDAY 23rd FEBRUARY 2017 6.00pm to 8.00pm
We would like to welcome parents and students to our Options Evening, this is where we will discuss the various subject combinations available to your child over the next few years. There will be a presentation in the Celebration Hall at 7:00pm. You will also have the opportunity to meet teachers from the various subject areas before and after the talk, who will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.
Students in Years 9, 10 and 11 study a number of subjects which they have chosen according to individual talents, aspirations and preference. Your child is currently preparing to make the decision about the subjects he or she will take in Year 9. The Key Stage 4 Curriculum allows for the study of subjects in greater depth in preparation for public examinations and for students to choose subjects they have not experienced yet.
In Year 9 we are offering an extensive range of GCSE courses as well as a number of vocational courses. The vocational courses provide a different course structure and different styles of teaching and learning. There is a more practical element to these courses and they provide the ideal platform for some students to study beyond Year 11.
The options booklet (click on the link below to download) is designed to help both students and parents make those important decisions which will lay the foundations for study programmes over the next few years.
We hope that you will have chance to read through this booklet with your child and discuss the choices available. Your child should also seek help from his or her form tutor and subject teachers, who will be closely involved in guiding students through this process.
As you will be aware students must remain in compulsory education until they are 18. We are very conscious of making sure that we offer progression opportunities for students beyond their time at Castle View that support them being accepted into other Sixth Form schools, colleges or onto an appropriate apprenticeship scheme.
We seek to provide a range and variety of subjects and qualifications designed to meet the needs and aspirations of all our students.
We hope that this options evening and booklet will provide the range of information you need and that we are able to work together to provide the best possible way forward for your child.
We always aim, as far as possible, to offer students their chosen subjects. Should any difficulties arise, however, the school reserves the right to make final allocations. As always we will endeavour to meet your child’s chosen options. However, in the unlikely event where this is not possible a further parental guidance meeting will take place to look for an alternative solution.
We look forward to meeting you and answering any questions you may have.
