Well-Being and Making the Weather

We make the weather

At Castle View school we believe that we are all responsible for our mood and how this helps to create the climate around us.  We want to have a happy school and one where everyone is able to thrive.   We use Haim Ginott’s poem as a basis for how we approach each day – we believe that every day is a new day.  This doesn’t mean that everything from yesterday is forgotten but simply that we can all have the chance to try again to be successful.

I have come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element.

It is my personal approach that creates the climate.

It is my daily mood that makes the weather.

I possess tremendous power to make life miserable or joyous.

I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration.

I can humiliate or humour.

I hurt or heal.

In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis is escalated or de-escalated, and a person is humanised or de-humanised.

If we treat people as they are, we make them worse. If we treat people as they ought to be, we help them become what they are capable of becoming.
